Fractional CFO · NY

Strategic financial leadership, without the full-time overhead.

Every growing business reaches a point where the numbers get more complicated than the founder has time for. Cash flow gets tight even while revenue grows, investors start asking harder questions, and decisions that used to be gut calls now need real analysis behind them.

That's where I come in. I'm David Montegari, a CFA® charterholder and fractional CFO. I bring Wall Street rigor and corporate finance experience to businesses that need senior financial leadership but don't need, or aren't ready for, a full-time CFO.

From the trading floor to the boardroom

I started my career as a derivatives trader. There I learned to price risk, make decisions under pressure, and respect what the numbers are actually telling you. Then I spent 15 years in corporate finance, building forecasts, leading planning cycles, and helping leadership teams turn financial data into strategy.

Across those roles, one thing has stayed the same: good financial guidance isn't just about getting the numbers right. It's about helping the people running the business understand them and act on them with confidence.

What I do for my clients

As a fractional CFO, I work alongside owners and leadership teams to:

Build financial clarity

Forecasts, budgets, and reporting that show you where the business is and where it's headed.

Manage cash and capital

Plan for growth, prepare for financing, and avoid surprises.

Support big decisions

Pricing, expansion, acquisitions, and investments, backed by real analysis.

Prepare for investors and lenders

Models, presentations, and a story that holds up to scrutiny.

Put strong processes in place

Financial systems and controls that grow with the business.

How I work

I'm analytical by training and approachable by nature. You won't get jargon or a 40-page deck no one reads. You'll get clear answers, honest perspective, and a partner who cares about your business as much as you do.

Clients trust me because I tell them what they need to hear, not what they want to hear, and then I help them do something about it.
